All bands, sooner or later, come up with some sort of game plan, a strategy to lead them down the harmonious path of success - with success defined as anything from applause, a local fan following, increased cash flow, or a record contract.
For instance, lead vocalist Jamie Pinkerton says Lancaster-based Vent would like to produce more originals, but right now, they're doing just fine with covers - "something people are familiar with, and can relate to." He continues, "At the heart, we're an original project. But in getting started, we're going to play covers ... We basically eventually want to do the whole gamut. We look at other bands making a living around here and we want that." Expect Vent's sets to include modern/hard rock covers from Rage Against the Machine, Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, and Papa Roach, or power-pop hits from the likes of Blink 182, Foo Fighters, and Third Eye Blind.
As frontman, Pinkerton says, "I'm good at impersonations, so I try to emulate the vocalists I'm covering. I put everything into it, jump around a lot." Joining Pinkerton in the crew are bassist/back-up vocalist Bob Alleman, lead guitarist/back-up vocalist Keith Himelwright, and drummer Bill Fry.
Vent has penned only one original so far, since their inception eight months ago, but plans on working on collecting others for an eventual full-length CD release. "I don't think you need a record contract," claims Pinkerton. "I think you can do it yourself and release a record. I'd like to become one of the biggest bands in the region." To reach this goal, Pinkerton agrees that Vent needs to play more, and at bigger venues - they currently play the Lancaster, York, and Harrisburg areas.
