"Audiences can expect to be up, moving and dancing most of the night. We cater to the dancer," says Tom Anderson, bassist for the band Tanner Mountain. The central Pa.-based group performs a mix of country and rock.
"We're basically a cover band," he notes. "Eighty percent of what we cover is the newer country music and we usually finish our night off with a set of classic rock." Artists covered by the band include Brooks & Dunn, the Kentucky Headhunters, Leroy Parnell, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Billy Joel. In addition to cover material, the musicians also write and occasionally perform their own originals. They have recorded two albums, and expect to release a third CD by the end of the year.
Anderson is joined on stage by his brother, Bill, on guitar, as well as Tim Gibbs on lead guitar and Jan Grim on drums. The group has been together close to 12 years. In that time, they've entertained with well-known country acts like the Bellamy Brothers, and will be performing their next big show this July when they hit the stage with Blackhawk in Red Lion.
Anderson says that in addition to getting down on the dance floor, audiences can expect a lively, upbeat show. "When you see us, you'll see four guys having a good time, which usually translates out into the crowd," he states. "We've gotten comments on that, that we seem to be enjoying ourselves and having a good time which permeates out into the crowd." He says their love of performing is what keeps the members going, as they perform with the band in addition to full-time day jobs. "We're doing this because we really enjoy it. It's not like we're in it for the money."
