Sara Eden, lead vocalist and keyboardist in Crave, is a survivor. And proof
that dreams really do come true.
Once happily married, living in Chicago, and working in inside sales, Eden
says at one time, "All I cared about was cutting out coupons and weeding my
garden." But unexpectedly, her "world was completely flipped upside down."
Following a separation from her husband, she returned to her hometown of
Lancaster and decided to pursue something she secretly wanted to do since
she was a child: sing in a band.
Beginning with voice lessons, auditions, and fill-ins for various bands,
Eden finally found the answer through Crave in February. "These guys have
opened up and supported me with all their experience in music. To me, I'm a
virgin at this, and they gave me a chance, they saw potential in me," she
says. "Every time I walk off the stage, I can't believe I'm doing this.
These three guys are like my brothers; I adore them all."
Eden adds her husky alto voice to a band over one year old who had been
looking for a replacement lead vocalist in February. The band "pre-Eden"
hadn't made it "out of the basement," so to speak, but the current lineup,
according to Eden, "got off the ground very quickly. The four of us have
the right chemistry."
Playing York and Lancaster counties, the Lancaster-based quartet has
developed over 40 recognizable cover tunes for their songlist, including
those by artists like Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, Gin Blossoms, Blink
182, and many more. Because Eden's voice has a lower range, it gives her
the versatility to cover either female lead or higher-pitched male lead
songs. "I think our blend of music appeals to such a broad age group - the
25-plus crowd - because of the music we're doing," she explains. "It's
dynamic music - never slow, and our songs are very upbeat with a lot of
drama. Stage presence is the key ... I'm very passionate about what I
sing."
Eden says Crave would eventually like to incorporate original songs into
their act, but their initial goal is to be a "really good cover band." Eden
writes the lyrics and lead guitarist/ vocalist Daryl "D" Cozzens, an
experienced professional musician, writes the music. The band is also
comprised of Matt Hanson on bass and vocals, and Michael "B" Haverstick on
drums.
Eden says she and "D" may also team up to form an acoustic duet in the
future, as a supplement to Crave, but for now, "We [Crave] just wanna have
fun and make people happy," she says. "That's more than money, just to be
out there doing it." Visit www.crave.esmartmusic.com. for additional
