Dave Wilson has wailed on the tenor and soprano sax throughout south central Pa. venues for nearly 20 years. But he still claims, "I need to continue to practice and better myself as a saxophonist."
And he gets plenty of practice. If Wilson's not performing with his bands, the Dave Wilson Group and Crazeology, he's out playing in the Dave Wilson Trio or Duo, or in the Dixieland band, Canal St. Jazz Band - which he says is more "concert-like." As if that weren't enough, he teaches private woodwind lessons.
"I'm happy to be living in Lancaster County," Wilson comments, "a place where I can play music, teach music, and live a very comfortable existence."
Wilson's Ellingtons performance this month will feature the Dave Wilson Trio, which comprises any combination of the following band members: Dave Kinkaid or Kirk Reese on keyboards; Marlyn Warner on guitar and vocals; Clyde Lucas or Jeff Stabley on drums; and Steve Meashey or Tim O'Donnell on bass. The Trio plays a wide range of jazz favorites - from traditional to contemporary selections. Wilson's originals are flavored with influences like saxophonist Joe Labono, with whom he's personally studied, Bill Barron, John Coltrane, and Dexter Gordan; a CD will be recorded in the winter.
Expect the Trio's performance to be a "good jazz show," according to Wilson. "We try to bring a commitment and high energy to our performance and lay it all out on the line."
