Don't let the size of this group fool you. Husband and wife team Kent and Erica Courtney may only be a duo, but that doesn't stop them from performing a wide variety of music. The York-based twosome can cover "almost anything from Renaissance music through somewhat contemporary country and into folk," says Kent. Their performances touch on Cajun, blues, country, Irish folk, and more, with cover songs by artists like Elvis, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Jimmy Buffet and the Indigo Girls. Notes Kent, "Our strongest area is music of the '50s, '60s and '70s."

A major part of their show is Cajun music, complete with authentic French vocals. Both musicians cover vocal duties. Kent plays guitar, harmonica, mandolin and accordion, and his wife also performs on multiple instruments including percussion, mandolin and guitar. In addition, the two often swap instruments, adding even more variety to their show.

Performing is a full-time job for the Courtneys, who play out regularly in New York, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Their shows have what Kent terms a "casual effect." Elaborating, he says, "We sound really great but we don't have to turn it up. We're entertaining without being overpowering." He also points out that the duo's goal is to get the crowd involved and present a performance that's similar to a cabaret show. "We sing to people and make friends with people," he explains. "What we do is real entertainment, rather than just playing music." Their performances are filled with commentaries and off-the-wall humor. Summing up the act, Kent says, "Come out for some great vocals, a variety of music and for stupid jokes, too."
